MLB Vault: MLB 1986-ALCS Game 5-Boston Red Sox @ Anaheim Angels: Full Game

Source:MLB Vault- Boston Red Sox OF Dave Henderson's game winning HR, against the Anaheim Angels in game 5.

Source:The New Democrat
"Boston Red Sox 7 at California Angels 6, F/11 -- The Angels needed only one more out to earn their first World Series appearance, but it was the Red Sox who had destiny on their side. Angels closer Donnie Moore pushed Dave Henderson and the Red Sox one strike away from elimination, but Henderson earned redemption for an earlier fielding miscue by hitting Moore's second 2-2 pitch over the left-field fence to give the Red Sox a 6-5 lead. The Angels tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, but Henderson's sacrifice fly off Moore in the eleventh gave the Red Sox the lead and they went on to win the series in seven games."
From MLB Vault
Perhaps the best MLB playoff game at least in my lifetime. And the biggest choke in my lifetime at least in MLB with the Angels blowing a 3-1 series lead with the opportunity to win the American League Championship at home with their offense, defense and pitching. And they simply didn’t close the door to a team they probably should’ve beaten at least in six games if not five.
Wally Joyner not in the Angels lineup certainly hurt them in-game 5. But you got to know that they had the Red Sox beat in the ninth inning with their closer Donnie Moore who was lights out most of the 1986 season on the mound. He makes a bad pitch to Dave Henderson and that forces the game to extra innings. But Joyner would’ve been a big force in the Angels lineup in-game 6 and 7, when the Red Sox blew out the Angels at Fenway Park.

Salon: Hamna Zubair: Jon Stewart Defends Duck Dynasty Star's Right to Free Speech

Source:Salon Magazine- welcome to Redneckistan. Or the Texas portion of Redneckistan.

Source:The New Democrat

“Last night Jon Stewart couldn’t resist bringing up the racist and homophobic comments “Duck Dynasty’s” star Phil Robertson made in a recent interview – but he didn’t take Robertson down in typical Daily Show style. Robertson was removed from “Duck Dynasty” soon after his comments became public, a move Stewart clearly took issue with.

Stewart, who admitted he thought “Duck Dynasty” was “a show where ducks reenact the show ‘Dynasty,'” defended Robertson’s right to free speech:

“I think what the guy said is ignorant,” said Stewart, “but I also have an inclination to support a world where saying ignorant sh*t on television doesn’t get you kicked off that medium.”

Stewart went on to talk about how Fox News was also, unsurprisingly, defending Robertson’s right to free speech – except that this defense was cloaked in hypocrisy, given the channel’s campaign to draw attention to a perceived “War on Christmas.”

He said: “Their [Fox News] belief in free speech doesn’t extend to the holidays, when the word ‘Christmas’ is mandatory.”

“1979 MLB All-Star Game (Seattle) Original Broadcast”

From Classic MLB

Playing an all-star baseball game at a football stadium. The Kingdome despite being fairly close to the action for baseball and a very loud stadium for both baseball and football, was basically a football stadium, because of its size, sixty-five thousand seats for football. And in the high fifty-thousands for baseball.

This was a great game where Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Dave Parker who was a five-tool player up until the mid 1980s, throws out a baserunner from the outfield wall unassisted. Perhaps the best defensive play in MLB All Star game history.

For all the talk about this game being a slugfest with the lineups that both teams had and the stadium they were playing at, this game could’ve been played at Shea Stadium in New York, or Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City. Because this was a pitchers duel with the Americans beating the Nationals 3-2.

Goes to show you that great pitching, especially when that great pitching throws hard with control, will beat great hitting. Especially if those great hitters are expecting a big game because of the ballpark that they are playing at.

The Young Turks: Cenk Uygur- 'President Obama Sets Bear Trap, Republicans Walk Right Into It'

Source: The Young Turks- Fox News, talking about President Barack Obama.
Source: The New Democrat

"Following President Barack Obama's State of the Union address on Tuesday, where he called on Congress to end discriminatory workplace practices that "belong in a Mad Men episode" Fox News host Martha MacCallum proclaimed on the program American's Newsroom that women did not want special laws ensuring equal for equal work because they already were compensated "exactly what they're worth." On the Fox program, two men, liberal radio host Alan Colmes and Fox News host Tucker Carlson, debated equal pay for women. Carlson assertedthat women actually made more than men if the time they "voluntarily" took off work to raise children was factored in. "The numbers don't lie," he insisted...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down."

From The Young Turks

The current Republican governing policy is, “if Democrats are for it, we are against it, even if we are for it, or were once in favor of it”. And even offered it in health care reform a perfect example of that where the Affordable Care Act actually has a lot of good conservative ideas like the health care mandate and the health care market place in it. Which is the main reason why there hasn’t been much compromise in Congress between the House and Senate because when Democrats say okay we’ll agree to that, the House GOP just moves the ball further to get more compromises.

Then instead of Republicans saying okay let’s do that, Republicans just move the ball and say well, “if Democrats are willing to give us this, we can get them to give us this as well and hold off on a deal”. The deficit reduction negotiations are a perfect example of this where Democrats have put entitlement reform on the table and what Republicans is do is to say well, “if they will do that, then they’ll take exactly what type of entitlement reform we are interested in”. Like cutting Social Security benefits to future retirees or cutting benefits to current beneficiaries.

The only goal Republicans have right now is absolute power. And to accomplish this, they need to hold onto the House and 2014 and retake the Senate in 2014. To give them a united Republican Congress and to win back the White House in 2016 as well. While hanging onto Congress and the hard right partisan Republicans in the House and Senate have one clear strategy. “If Democrats are for it, it must be a bad idea even if it is our idea. So we are only going to put policies that are as far to the right as possible to get our partisan right-wing base behind us to avoid primary challenges”.

Which leaves us with gridlock when you have the Republican Leadership saying no to anything that the Democratic Leadership especially in the Senate and White House say yes to. Because now Democrats are in a position where they are only negotiating with themselves. Trying to find more moderate members in Congress to go along with some of these more conservative ideas in broader packages, while not losing any of their more, well lets say progressive members. Instead of negotiating with their own caucus’ in the House and Senate, along with Congressional Republicans.

The Doors: Jim Morrison- 'When The Music's Over: Live at The Hollywood Bowl (1968)'

Source:The Doors- Jim Morrison and The Doors, Live at The Hollywood Bowl, in 1968.

"Live at Hollywood Bowl (1968)"

From The Doors

I believe the most memorable performance from The Doors, at least for Jim Morrison. Live at The Hollywood Bowl from 1968, in Los Angeles, 90 minute performance and in color. Perhaps not even half of the footage of Jim Morrison and The Doors was shot in color. Which is a damn shame considering how great and creative of a performer that Jim Morrison was and how popular he was.

And probably was not The Lizard King's best performance as far as delivering the vocals, but it was still an excellent job as far as acting out the scenes in the songs which was mostly off from improv from Morrison. Like with song The Unknown Solider where he crashes to the ground. He gets distracted with seeing a caterpillar on the stage floor and gets down and picks the insect up and makes a comedic scene out of it. Also a very sexy performance on his part with the brown skin-tight leather jeans and all the closeups of The Lizard King, especially in his crotch section and with Morison playing that to the hilt with the dancing and even inviting the closeups of his midsection.

Source:NBC Sports- The Detroit Tigers vs the Chicago White Sox in 1984.

Here’s one example of why Jack Morris should be in the MLB Hall of Fame, because when he was on, he could be very dominant, because he threw hard and then throw in his devastating forkball and he could fool you. One of the last pitchers especially of his era that you wanted to fall behind, because of his forkball and he wouldn’t need to throw strikes to get you out.
The 1984 Detroit Tigers are about as a complete and great baseball team that MLB has had, at least since 1969 when divisional play started. They were very good defensively, had a very good, deep and all around lineup offensively. And had very good pitching, both starting and in the bullpen. And Jack Morris was a big part of that and should get more credit for it.

Game two of the 1979 ALCS being played at the “Outdoor Insane Asylum”, as Baltimore Memorial Stadium was called. As it should’ve been being perhaps the loudest outdoor stadium in pro major league sports in America. Both for baseball and football giving, the Orioles and Colts huge home field advantages especially when they were good. This was a game that the Angels basically had to have, since they only won one game in Anaheim, but failed to get. Different ALCS had the Angels managed to win game two, going back to Anaheim with a split and the momentum and a chance to win two out of three to win the American League Championship. All the Orioles wanted to do in this game, was to win it and go to Anaheim with a shot at clinching the ALCS in game 3.

The Daily Beast: Peter Beinart: ‘Brown University’s Campus Leftists vs. Free Speech’

Source:The Daily Beast- NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Source:FreeState MD

“Tell that to Ray Kelly. Yesterday the New York City police chief was prevented from speaking on Paxson’s campus by students angered by the NYPD’s racial profiling. Those students have good reason to be angry. Unfortunately, they’re the latest in a long line of campus activists who believe their anger trumps other people’s free speech.

Netanyahu from speaking at Montreal’s Concordia University. In 2009, activists at the University of North Carolina shut down a planned speech by anti-immigration congressman Tom Tancredo.

There’s something deeper going on here. On the surface, campuses like Brown’s seem hegemonically liberal. But in my experience, that apparent consensus conceals a crucial gulf between students and faculty who hold left of center opinions but accept basic norms of fair play and students who consider freedom of speech a scam employed by the powers that be to perpetuate their racism/sexism/classism/imperialism/homophobia. Convinced that freedom of speech is an illusion denied them outside the university gates, they take revenge in the one arena where the balance of forces tilt their way. And they thus inject into their own campuses the totalitarian spirit they believe characterizes society at large. It’s no surprise that such activists targeted Ray Kelly, and that for years they tried to bar military recruiters. What better way to deny your government’s basic legitimacy than to turn the people it deputizes to protect you into pariahs.”

Fired National Public Radio analyst breaks down events following Muslim comments on ‘The O’Reilly Factor'”

Source:State of The Union- Juan Williams on The O'Reilly Factor in 2010, talking about being fired by taxpayer funded National Public Radio.

From State of The Union

I hate the term “campus liberals” to refer to people are supposed to be Liberals even though they aren’t and sound more like Fidel Castro or Hugo Chavez supporting and admiring Neo-Communists, than they do Liberals. I’ll get to what I mean by that later, because you simply can’t be a Liberal if you do not believe in free speech period. It would like someone whose a Conservative who doesn’t believe in private enterprise or capitalism. Or a Libertarian whose against the right to privacy and in favor of the War on Drugs. There’s a big reason the first amendment is the first amendment because it is the most important amendment we have and the most important freedom that we as people have.

Take free speech away and you might as well take away democracy and the freedom to assemble and the right to privacy, because one doesn’t work without the other with people being able to organize and speak their minds even if it offends people on the fascist Left or fascist Right. People who believe they are God (even if they are Atheists) and have all the answers and are right about everything to the point they believe they shouldn’t have any opposition.

So if you believe in censorship as a policy and that free speech only applies to people who you agree with, then you are not a Liberal. Just like someone whose against capitalism and wants the economy to be nationalized is not a Conservative. Or someone whose against the right to privacy and against freedom of choice is not a Libertarian.

My main response to Peter Beinart is that people who oppose right-wingers that they dislike right to free speech in America, aren’t Liberals because free speech is as liberal a value that exists anywhere in the world. But instead these young folks for the most part are left-wing fascists, or acting left-wing fascists. It’s Communists or Neo-Communists who are on the Far-Left perhaps everywhere in the world outside of Cuba and North Korea, who oppose free speech. Not Liberals because Liberals believe in liberal democracy. And free speech is as liberal as any value that you have in a liberal democracy.

Source:The Daily Journal

“1986 05 03 NBC GOW California Angels At Milwaukee Brewers”

The 1986 Angels were a very good, if not great all around team: hitting, pitching, and defense that should’ve at least gotten to the World Series. But of course lost three straight games in the ALCS after having a 3-1 lead in that series.

The Angels, who contended both in 84 and 85 in the AL West, which was back before the wildcard came into both leagues, looked like the team to beat in the AL West both seasons. 1986, they weren’t expected to win the AL West, especially the way that they did by being in first place most of the season. But in 86, they put it together for the whole season, both with their offense and pitching. And managed to avoid fading in August and September like they did in 84 and 85.

The 1986 Brewers, were somewhat in transition. Especially with their pitching and weren’t contenders at all and about a 500 ball club.

Source:The Daily Journal

"1985 06 15 NBC GOW Tigers at Yankees"

From NBC Sports

1985 is the perfect example of why MLB should’ve went to the three division format in both the American and National League with the playoff wildcards well before 1994. Because you had four ninety win teams in 1985 and each division champion would’ve had at least ninety wins. The Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East, Kansas City Royals in the AL Central, and the Anaheim Angels in the AL West.

The New York Yankees as a wildcard team in 85 would’ve have more wins than every division winner except for the Blue Jays. If you go with two wild cards in each league, the Detroit Tigers would’ve just barely misses the AL Playoffs in 85 with 84 wins, a game behind the Chicago White Sox.

1985 was a great year for MLB and the Yankees and Tigers were both in the playoff race that year. And played each other on NBC which is this game.

"1981 ALDS Game 3 - Royals at Athletics"

From F1 Nut

The expanded MLB Playoffs is not the problem I have with the MLB Playoffs in 1981 in the American League and National League. It's how they did it which is the problem with the teams having the best records in first and second halves of the season in each division qualifying for the playoffs in each league. Which meant four teams making the playoffs in both leagues, which is how MLB did it from 1995-2011. Which again I don’t have a problem with, but how they did it.

Instead of having the teams that had the best records in their divisions for the entire season and have the two second place teams in each league qualifying as wildcards in each league, they had the best teams in the first halves of the season, play the teams with the best record of the second half of the season. Which meant teams like the Cincinnati Reds who had the best overall record in the NL West in 1981, missed the NL Playoffs because they didn’t have the best record in their division in either the first or second half of 1981.

The Young Turks: 'Worst NBA Players of All Time to Win Championship'

Source:The Young Turks- don't ask me who the crazy man trying to dance is.

Source:The Daily Journal

"The list is filled with plenty of NBA players that are simply undeserving of holding up the Larry O'Brien trophy. To name a few: Dexter Pittman, Eddy Curry, Luke Walton and Adam Morrisson. Hear who is on our list and let us know who you think is the WORST basketball player to win an NBA championship...

For me, it would be former Boston Celtics center Greg Kite from the mid and late 1980s. Who was a solid backup center as far as rebounding and post defense. But this isn’t the list of worst players to ever play in the NBA, but to win the NBA Championship. And for me at least off the top of my head Greg Kite was the Celtics third-string center at this point. Because he was basically no offensive threat at all who had no outside shot. And even had trouble making shots close to the basket when he was open and got a pass from Larry Bird or someone else. Greg Kite even had trouble putting offensive rebounds back in the basket as well. Who was a third-string center, so that alone says a lot.

The list of the players that the people on this show listed, are perhaps the worst players to win an NBA championship in the last fourteen years, or since 2000. And perhaps that is because their knowledge of NBA basketball only goes back that far. But the NBA Finals has been around since 1948 or so. So their list isn’t very deep.

When you put lists together that are about the history of the NBA or any other sports league, it's good to have people around who are familiar with the 20th Century, or at least 20th Century sports, when most of the history in these leagues were made. Otherwise just call your list: "The Worst 10 Players in The Last 10 Years" and then see whose actually interested in that.

CBC: Retro Bites- Hunter Thompson: On Jimmy Carter (1977)

Source:CBC- Writer Hunter Thompson, talking to CBC about President Jimmy Carter, in 1977.
Source:The Daily Journal

“In this clip from 1977, legendary gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson shares a candid, blunt assessment of U.S. President Jimmy Carter – calling him one of the “three meanest men I’ve ever met”. Thompson says Carter “would have cut my head off” to win power but that he admires how he played the political game.”

From CBC

Hunter Thompson calling Jimmy Carter a tough operator and someone who knows how to work the system. Which I actually respect as well in someone who knows what they want to do, knows the obstacles in front of them and knows the odds against them, but essentially decides: “the hell with it! This is what I want to do and I’m going to give it my best shot.” Basically saying: “what the hell do I have to lose anyway.”

A lot of specially big city Northern Progressive Democrats saw Jimmy Carter as a peanut brain and perhaps peanut farmer as well. Ted Kennedy, who looked at running for president in 1976 as well, was probably one of them. But Hunter Thompson saying that Carter was anything but a peanut brain.

The truth is without Watergate and debacle of the Nixon Administration in their second term in how President Nixon handled Watergate, and with President Nixon’s Vice President becoming President after Nixon resigned in 1974, pardoning him with Richard Nixon perhaps being as unpopular as gun control is in South Carolina, Jimmy Carter probably never becomes President of the United States, at least not in 1976.

The Washington outsider ( also known as Jimmy Carter ) was really the only issue that the Carter Campaign had going for them in 1976. As well as Carter coming off as a regular guy who connected with ordinary people. Someone who middle class Americans saw as one of them. Because he was one of them.

How does a peanut farmer from rural Georgia become President of the United States? You’re a Democrat going against a Republican Party that essentially shoots off all ten of their toes with Watergate. And then having the new President pardon the former President who was essentially a criminal, even though he was also Commander-In-Chief. I could also say a criminal who is also Chief Law Enforcement Officer, but that title is better suited for the Attorney General, or even the Secretary of Homeland Security.

And then you’re an outsider who has a clean record whose intelligent, who can speak to average Americans. Who doesn’t represent the system and wants to change the system. And Jimmy Carter was essentially had the perfect environment to run for president in 1975-76 and took full-advantage of it.

Inky 261: 'Citroen DS OldTimer in Berlin'

"Citroen DS 21 (Oldtimer) in Berlin, Germany.
Music is "Party"
Miroslaw Marks...

From Inky 261

This car right here, this beautiful 1971 D-Model Citroen, brings back great memories for me. My father at one point owned three of them. Grew up with all three of them and when he worked for the U.S. Public Health Service, he drove one of them to work everyday, after he gave up his Subaru that rusted out. The Subaru, was a pretty good car too. But comparing a Subaru of any model, with a Citroen D-Model, is like comparing a Ford Escort with a Lincoln Continental: there really isn’t any comparison.

The Subaru wagon that Dad had, was like sporty economy car, with a bit of a hard ride. The D-Model and all of three of them that we had, were luxury cars. Big luxury cars, the size of a Jaguar, but not as heavy, with a lot more leg room in the rear, that handled like a sports car. With its four-wheel, hydraulic suspension, gave you the feeling that you were riding first class in a chartered airplane. Except without the noise and perhaps with even more leg room and no bumps. True, no gorgeous sexy stewardess comes with a Citroen DS ride. But that’s a small sacrifice from everything else that comes with either riding in, or driving a Citroen DS.

We’re talking about a luxury car in the Citroen DS, that is similar to a Rolls Royce as far as comfort. But a third of the price and not has heavy or as big. And I just wish that Citroen still made the DS and that they sold their cars in America. And perhaps one day the French will decide that America is the market they need to be in, for them to sell as many cars as they can.

Source:The Young Turks- U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (Republican, Texas) speaking at length (to quote John Ivarola) about ObamaCare.

Source:FreeState MD

"Ted Cruz finally released his grip on the Senate floor after more than 21 hours of speaking about the need to defund Obamacare.

The Texas Republican seized control of the Senate floor on Tuesday about 2:42 p.m. vowing to "speak in support of defunding Obamacare until I am no longer able to stand." Cruz could have spoken all the way up to a 1 p.m. procedural vote on moving spending bill forward, but he relented at noon.".* John Iadarola (TYT University, The Common Room) breaks it down on The Young Turks."

Where Senator Ted Cruz's speech about ObamaCare was a filibuster, or a crazy man with nothing better to do, then to go down to the U.S. Senate floor and prevent the presiding officer of the Senate from going home to get some much needed sleep, (like a selfish person, or something) Senator Cruz proved one point. He can speak for hours and hours about nothing, add nothing to an already controversial debate about ObamaCare. And apparently do this leaving plenty of coffee and candy bars for everyone else in Washington.

From Retro Jeans Network
The music might sound corny thirty-years later, but those Jordache denims on that woman certainly do not look corny. If anything those designer jeans and that type of designer denim is even bigger today.

I’ll never understand why women’s denim jeans went from dark wash designer denims from the late 1970s all the way to 1985 or so, to acid wash denims from the late 1980s and even into the early 1990s. And then back to the designer denims of the late 1990s that we are still going through today with the jeans in boots look coming back into style ten-years ago, that is still with us especially in cold weather. The designer denims of this era and now with the low-rise skinny denim look are perfect for sexy women. Especially the dark wash jeans, because of how they highlight women’s legs and butts. Without the women having to show skin when she sits down or stands up.

MLB: MLB 1987- 4/15- Milwaukee Brewers @ Baltimore Orioles: Juan Nieves No Hitter

Source:MLB- Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Juan Nieves, throwing a no hitter, against the Orioles in 1987.
Source:The Daily Journal

"1987-04-15 Brewers vs Orioles (Nieves no-hitter)"

From MLB

The Orioles still had some talent in 1987, but their pitching was awful and their defense wasn’t much better. Interesting to hear about all the all-star free agents like Tim Raines and Ron Guidry to still not be playing in April of that year. Because they still are not under contract. The Milwaukee Brewers were interesting in 1987. Led the AL East for the first part of that year starting the season with like a 10-0 record. A very good power-hitting team, but once you got past Teddy Higuera, not enough pitching to keep pace with the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays and even New York Yankees in 87.

I think the collapse of the Orioles where they went from being an annual World Series contender that made the AL Playoffs practically every year in the 1970s, that won three World Series from 1966-83 and six AL Championships and six AL East Championships in that time period as well, can be traced to their inability to maintain their pitching. Especially their starting pitching where by 87 if not 86, they really only had Mike Bodicker that they could count on as a starting pitcher. The defense was also a big problem for them in 87-88 even though offensively they could still score runs and hit the ball out of the ballpark with Eddie Murray, Cal Ripken, Larry Fred Lynn, Larry Sheets and perhaps a few others.

Marie Marr: Up With Steve Kornacki- 'An Opening For Elizabeth Warren in 2016?'

Source:Marie Marr- Steve Kornacki and company, talking about U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (Democrat, Massachusetts) on MSNBC.
Source:FreeState MD

"From Video.MSNBC.MSN.com. UP With Steve Kornacki. Oct 5, 2013. The New York Times' Jonathan Martin, The Washington Post's Jackie Kucinich and Buzzfeed's McKay Coppins join Steve Kornacki to discuss if Elizabeth Warren's current "moment" will translate into a 2016 presidential run."

From Marie Marr

I buy that there is anger I guess or this feeling that we need something different (in the lets call it the Far-Left in the Democratic Party) so-called Progressive-Democrats ( to be nice, during the holiday season ) like Senator Elisabeth Warren who is not as Far-Left as much as her followers may want her to be.

Senator Warren is a mainstream Progressive Democrat similar to Ted Kennedy or Sherrod Brown or Tom Harkin. She’s from the FDR/LBJ wing of the Democratic Party. Not the Michael Moore or MSNBC wing, which is very different.

Elizabeth Warren is not a McGovernite government needs to be big enough to manage people’s lives for them, because people are too stupid to do that for themselves. She’s not Dennis Kucinich or Ralph Nader but a center-left Progressive to the Left of me and I’m a Liberal, who wants government to do basic things: like regulating big business especially Wall Street, but not ending business and turning them into government agencies. And when Occupy Wall Street and others on the Far-Left figure this out, by sobering up, she’ll get less of their support.

Senator Warren is not an extremist and if that is what Social Democrats in the Democratic Party want a FDR or Ted Kennedy so-called Progressive, someone who is also pretty mainstream, then great someone like an Elisabeth Warren would go far and give someone like a Hillary Clinton who at best is a Progressive, but not a far-lefty and that may only be when she feel she needs to be.

Hillary is like a political calculator: she calculates where she believes she needs to be at the time to be politically successful. Which is her main weakness and I believe something she’s going to have to get past, if she really wants to be President of the Untied States.

If Elizabeth Warren were to run as that Progressive that I’m talking about and Hillary runs as the human political calculator, my support would go to the current Senator. Because at least I would know where she is on the issues and be with her on enough things to say voting for her was a good thing.

But if Liz were to run as a McGovernite “big central government always knows best for the people and people are too stupid to manage their own affairs” she’ll make Dennis Kucinich look like Ronald Reagan when it comes to presidential politics as far as political support. And bomb as badly as Rihanna at a Southern Baptist Convention.

Warner Archive: Point Blank (1967) 'Walker Coming For You'

"They double-crossed Walker, took his $93,000 cut of the heist and left him for dead, but they didn't finish the job. Big mistake. He - someday, somehow - is going to finish them. Lee Marvin is in full antihero mode as remorseless Walker, talking the talk and walking the walk in John Boorman's (Deliverance) edgy neo-noir classic filled with imaginative New Wave style, blunt dialogue and Walker's relentless quest that, one by one, smashes into the corporate pecking order of a crime group called the Organization.

Directed By John Boorman
Starring Lee Marvin, Angie Dickinson, Keenan Wynn."

For the life of me, I still don’t know what the woman in this scene was trying to say and what point she was making. Not sure Walker did either, but this is an important part of this movie, because Walker is back in town which is San Francisco. And he is back in town for a real reason, he wants the money that he stole that his partners took for him.

The money that Walker (played by Lee Marvin) is obviously not his money because he stole it. But in a criminal’s mind, money you take is yours. Except when another criminal takes your money. And Walker first stops by his wife’s apartment and to see if one of the men he’s after one of his former partners is there. Because one of them was sleeping with his wife. And that is really what this scene is about trying to get one of the men that can get him the money that he stole.

Strange Days: Light My Fire (2011)

“Los Angeles-based STRANGE DAYS performed “Light My Fire” THE DOORS classic on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. The performance was part of Galleria “LIVE!”, the free concert series hosted by the Sherman Oaks Galleria.”

If you are interested in just looking like The Lizard King Jim Morrison, let alone playing the man and trying to make a living playing the man in public, the lead vocalist from the Strange Days Band, is the guy you want model your act after. The Strange Days Morrison cover has The Lizard King look down, with white button-down shirt, as well as the white poet shirt that he wears, and of course the American-Indian, silver concho belt, and of course Jim Morrison's famous, sexy, skin-tight black leather jeans, that he wore almost everywhere in public, at least and not just in concert, but to weddings, party's, to church, even, from 1967-69, and his leather cowboy boots.

Imagine Jim Morrison instead of being the frontman of the The Doors from 1967-69, when The Doors were famous and popular, before The Lizard King was overwhelmed by his alcoholism and legal battles, he was performing during the last five years and today instead and imagine what he would look like. Instead of seeing him almost exclusively in black and white (unless you were at his show) you are seeing him exclusively in color. The guy who plays Jim Morrison for Strange Days, is probably the real Jim Morrison that you would see today, perhaps a little shorter. But the whole Lizard King, rock & roll, cowboy, wardrobe and attitude, that you see from this Morrison cover, is probably what you would see from the real Lizard King, assuming Morrison stuck with the leather jeans, cowboy boots, and concho belt.

The lead vocalist has the look of the Lizard King down except for maybe longer hair. And I think his skin-tight leather jeans might actually be tighter than Jim Morrison’s. Which is saying something, because it is hard to imagine a man who wore tight leather jeans and leather jeans even more skin-tight than Jim Morrison. At least from Jim Morrison’s generation.

One of the reasons why Jim Morrison was The Lizard King, because of how he dressed and his skin-tight leathers looked on him. I think Strange Days is the best Doors cover band I’ve seen at least. And there are at least a couple of others that are pretty good. But the guy who plays Jim Morrison, has The Lizard King down. And not just outfit and physical look, but the voice and charisma and how he presents himself on stage. This guy is a hell of an actor and singer.

For any guy whose interested in playing The Lizard King Jim Morrison and dressing up like him and perhaps even make a living at it, perhaps you love Jim Morrison and are looking at honoring him by dressing up as him for Halloween or going to a Halloween party dressed as him, the lead vocalist in the Strange Days band is the perfect guy you should model your look after. The white long sleeve shirt, the American-Indian concho belt, of course the skin-tight black leather jeans (you'll never get cold in those pants) and the leather cowboy boots. As well as the thick, long, black, hair.

Love seeing sexy women in Wrangler jeans and Laura Bell Bundy certainly qualifies as a sexy woman. Even if she farts in her Wranglers and farts in public, because I doubt she’s the only woman who does. And I’m sure some of those women are even straight as well.
Wrangler jeans denim or leather are for sexy women. They tend to be popular with country girls, western girls and cowgirls, but sexy women of all lifestyles and cultural backgrounds would look good in Wranglers. Because they are made for women with curves, to show off curvy women. They are not meant for stick-figure wannabe models who feel the need to only eat brown rice and rice cakes and drink water before they vomit all of that up. Because they feel that is how you become a successful model in America.

Bad Mood Guy: Point Blank (1967) Nightclub Scene

“There are two kinds of people in his up-tight world: his victims and his women. And sometimes you can’t tell them apart.” Lee Marvin in a double cross and revenge film by John Boorman.”

From Bad Mood Guy

Except for the guy screaming in the background, even though I actually liked the sound of the music, this was a great scene in a great movie that had a lot of great scenes in, that being Point Blank.

Walker (played by Lee Marvin) shows up to this nightclub because he wants to know where his sister-in-law is. Not because he loves her or even likes her, but because she goes with a guy who owes Walker money. And Walker wants his money back.

Walker’s former crew knows that Walker is back in town and wants his money back and that he might show up at this club. And they send two of their henchman to the club waiting for Walker to at the very least beat the hell out of Walker. But come up way short as Walker takes on both them and kicks their ass instead.

The Late Show With David Letterman: Lee Marvin in 1985

Source:CBS- The great actor Lee Marvin.
Source:The Daily Journal

“Viewer Mail is preceded by “A Time for Reflection,” which includes video later incorporated into the Late Night Anthem that aired a few weeks later on June 12. Featuring Lee Marvin, taped during his guest appearance the previous week, May 16, and the reason Paul gets applause during Dave’s Opening Remarks.

Paul’s lookalike is Olympics gymnastics competitor and coach Jim Surgent.”

Lee Marvin playing funny man to David’s trying to be straight man and conduct an actual interview. I wonder what it is like to interview someone who doesn’t want to talk about them self? Dave mentions to Lee that Lee is now in Arizona, but where in Arizona and Lee essentially says big state and parts unknown. Perhaps Lee is an undercover CIA agent in Mesa or some place. Wait, are there any other type of CIA agents?

Interviewing someone who doesn’t want to talk about them self, must be like trying to interview a wall and wondering why the wall is not responding to your questions. Perhaps a drunk person doing that because they think the wall is an elephant or something.

But Lee Marvin was a helluva smartass, as well as an actor as he showed in this interview.
