Larry King Live: 'Joan Collins- On Marilyn Monroe: Diva on Diva'

Source:CNN- Hollywood Babydoll Joan Collins, on Larry King Live, in 1997.

Source:The Daily Review

"In a series of interviews spanning two decades from 1997 to 2017, Joan Collins shares her memories of Marilyn Monroe."

From Larry King Live
Source:The Daily Review- Hollywood & British Babydoll Joan Collins, on Larry King Live, in 1997.

"Joan Collins Talks Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe & Mae West."

From Marmar

As far as Frank Sinatra: when you are worth hundreds of millions of dollars which is probably what Frank Sinatra was worth in today's money back in the 1950s and 1960s, you don't believe you live on top of the world. You believe you own the world and that anything you want you just get by asking or ordering it. You meet and work with a beautiful adorable brunette like Joan Collins with a great sense of humor and decide you want to have dinner with her that night. Why would the fact that you are currently in Hamburg Germany and Joan is probably 1000 miles or so away in England get in the way with you getting together with her that night?

You own your own plane and can just send it to her and pick her up and fly her back to Germany where you're currently working. You're not just perhaps the most popular singer in the world, but you're a Hollywood star in films. Why would the fact that Joan Collins has an early call the next morning affect whether you two can get together that night? You just call your friend at Joan's studio where she's working for and tell him that she will be late the next morning because she's having dinner with you in Germany.

That is how Frank Sinatra was probably thinking back then and what Joan did according to this interview was turn him down. And as Joan put it Frank Sinatra didn't handle rejection real well because he wasn't accustomed to being rejected. I mean rejecting Frank Sinatra could cost you. Jack and Bobby Kennedy rejected Frank in the early 60s by not going out to his home in California and instead going to Bing Crosby's on a trip out there and Frank never forgave Bobby for that.

As far as Mae West. Joan Collins has this famous quote that age is just a number. If I had to guess I would say that quote is actually Mae West's quote. Myra Breckinridge which was originally written by Gore Vidal comes out as a film in 1970 with Raquel Welch playing Myra and Mae West is in that movie. She's already in her eighties at that point and could've actually been Frank Sinatra'a mother as far as years, perhaps Joan Collins grandmother and yet she's still performing and singing in that movie and playing a sex goddess who wants to bring young sexy men up to her penthouse. The woman has a bed in her office in that movie. A woman who is already in her eighties.

As far as Marilyn Monroe. Joan is obviously right that gorgeous blondes aren't taken seriously in Hollywood. Nothing new to report there. Lauren Bacall and Ingrid Bergman would be exceptions to that because they both showed early on in their careers that they had to be taken seriously and it would cost the studios money if they weren't taken seriously, because those two women were both very intelligent and knew how to take care of themselves and how the business worked and what they were worth and meant to the movie industry. Marilyn Monroe wasn't a dumb blonde, but was certainly immature and overly adorable both in appearance and personality and was probably used and taken advantage of as a result. And treated like a little girl.

Jonathan Ross Show: Joan Collins- November, 2015

Source:Jonathan Ross Show- Hollywood and British Goddess Joan Collins.
Source:The Daily Review

I believe why Americans love soap operas and tabloids so much and now reality TV, is because of women like Joan Collins, Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner and I'm sure many others. But these three women come to my mind real fast. Because they lived and worked like divas and women who were simply more interesting than everyone else. For good and bad and a lot of that good, because Joan Collins is simply one of the cutest, funniest and best actress's of her generation.

Joan Collins, went toe-to-toe with Johnny Carson when he interviewed her on The Tonight Show. Great interview if you've seen that from back in 1983. Joan Collins is simply just a beautiful, fascinating, entertaining, funny and adorable woman, who is never boring and always entertaining. The life of the party and interview, life of the show.

Joan is someone who was born to be in the public eye who is always off-script, because she is quick and honest and doesn't need a script to be serious or funny, because she's so honest and you always know where she's coming from. We need more people like her for good and bad and I wish we had people like that. And perhaps so-called reality TV would disappear and we would get the real thing instead with Joan Collins and others always showing letting us know exactly where they're coming from.

Lauren Bacall: To Have & Have Not (1944) ‘You Know How To Whistle?’

Source:I Do Love Quotes- one of Lauren Bacall's best lines, scenes, and movies.

Source:The Daily Review

‘… You don’t have to say anything, and you don’t have to do anything. Not a thing. Oh, maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don’t you, Steve? You just put your…’

This photo is from the exact same scene in To Have and Have Not (1944) with Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart. And she asks Steve rhetorically: (played by Humphrey Bogart) "You do know how to whistle, don't you Steve."

Source: Another Brick Wall- Hollywood Goddess Slim Lauren Bacall.
I haven’t seen To Have and Have Not in a while and perhaps I should have seen that movie again before I blogged about it. But this movie is classic Lauren Bacall-Humphrey Bogart. Their onscreen chemistry was very similar if not better than Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn. Both very sharp and very funny and perhaps sharing the exact sense of humor. Lauren Bacall if she’s 20 years old at this point, she just turned 20. And yet you could already see how great this young gorgeous baby-faced adorable woman intelligent woman was going to be. Bogie as the adorable Lauren Bacall called Humphrey Bogart, was of course already a star at this point. And old enough to be Lauren’s father.

Slim, ( as Bogie called Lauren Bacall ) not just in this movie, but in their life together, was 19-20 years old. Playing a drifter who makes it to France. With very little if any money. Doesn’t sound that different from someone in their late teens early twenties in the 1960s. Who let’s say grows up in Cleveland, Ohio and is somewhat lost and doesn’t know where they’re going or where they want to go in life. Who ends up in San Francisco and become a hippie. But hopefully never meets Charles. Which is sort of an inside joke. But Slim meets Harry Morgan, who sort of the definition of an American small businessman doing business in a foreign country. Not that different from Casablanca.

Slim and Harry get together, because basically they both need each other. They both need money. Harry’s client owes him money that Harry needs and he sees Slim pickpocket this guy that owes Harry money. And Harry sees her do that and that is how they get together. By making a deal with each other and helping each other out as they try to avoid having to deal with the Nazi-Germans who has just taken over France in 1940. There are all sorts of crooked shady characters in this movie that Slim and Harry have to deal with. Including some adorable scenes featuring Lauren Bacall singing and doing other things. One of the best film-noir movies you’ll ever see.

Lauren Bacall: 'I Speak The Truth'

Source:AZ Quotes- Hollywood Goddess Lauren Bacall

Source:The Daily Review

"Very few people want to hear the truth. Bogie was like that, my mother was like that, and I'm like that. I believe in the truth, and I believe in saying what you think. Why not? Do you have to go around whispering all the time or playing a game with people? I just don't believe in that. So I'm not the most adored person on the face of the earth."

From AZ Quotes

"Luckily, we have her movies and photographs to appreciate her any time we want!"

Source:Remembering Lauren Bacall- Hollywood Goddess Lauren Bacall, on the truth.

Hollywood Goddess Lauren Bacall saying that she believes in the truth and saying what you think. And adds why not?

And to make a political correctness point to that even though of course I agree with Lauren on this, whose at least arguably the greatest actress we’ve ever known even though this is not about her career: political correctness advocates Left and Right and unfortunately more Left than Right would argue that sometimes the truth hurts. And we can’t always say what we think and know, because someone especially perhaps minorities might be offended by that. Which of course goes against liberal democratic values like free speech. But that is really a different topic and this blog covers that a lot anyway.

The best tool that an individual has in life will ever have after life is not freedom. And that might sound surprising to some, but there’s actually something more important than that. That has everything that we all value and love built around this more powerful tool, that tool is the truth and without that and of course education which comes from the truth, nothing else matters.

Without the truth and education we would never know what we actually know. You’ll never know how to improve yourself and where you do well and where you need to do better without the truth. And sometimes you might have flaws that are so severe and screw up so badly that you need someone to get in your face and set yourself straight. (No offense to gays) The truth also helps you know where you’re doing well. So you can continue to do that as you’re improving on your flaws.

We’re nothing in a positive sense if we don’t have the truth and we don’t have an education. To know what’s going on and why it’s going on, to know what works and what doesn’t work, where we’re strong and where we’re weak, where we’re average. And then know to improve ourselves and emphasize our strengths.

And yes that at times means hearing things about yourself and people you care about that are pretty negative. But the smart strong people can handle that, because they know themselves very well, because they value the truth and facts and rely on them to improve themselves. They know they’re not perfect and that there are times they need to be reminded of that and to see where else they may come up short.

And there are times when the truth sounds real good. And you find out something good about yourself that you didn’t know before. But without the truth we would all be blind NASCAR drivers on the racetrack of life, hoping we get to where we need to go safely. But without a course that actually gets us there.

Gata Bella: 'Ava Gardner's Private Moments'

Source:Gata Bella - Hollywood Goddess and  Babydoll Ava Gardner: perhaps being amazed by her own beauty and adorability.
Source:The Daily Review

"She was absolutely ravishing - no film had ever done her justice. And as a model, no one in my experience with mannequins and professionals surpassed her." ( Man Ray, painter, photographer)

Photos of Ava Gardner in her private life, with her men, friends and co-stars.

Music: "Speak Low" (by Eileen Wilson) and "How Am I To Know" (by Ava Gardner)"

I think what I love and respect most about Ava Gardner is not her beauty, (not many prettier) not her adorableness, (not many women cuter) not her sex appeal even though she was this gorgeous baby-faced brunette with a sweet body and great personality and sense of humor. What I love about her the most was her realness. The woman you saw on stage and in her movies is the woman you saw off camera. The people who worked for her and gave her roles knew her so well and set her up so beautifully.

It was like she was never acting in her movies, because she was so natural in the roles that she played. She always said that the only thing that she wanted was to be happy. Those are the characters that she played. She had the reputation of a somewhat immature wild child who went too far and had too much fun and then would pout when she wasn’t happy. You see her first seen in the movie Earthquake that she did with Charlton Heston and they have an argument and she’s in early fifties at this point and still very beautiful and adorable and she runs to the bathroom almost like a little girl and takes a lot of pills. Heston, her husband in the movie finds her and saves her.

She was always playing a bit of a wild child who loved to have a great time and took it too far. Because as she would tell you life to her was about being alive and living and not just being around. And enjoying life and being happy as much as you can. She died at 68, but she lived her life her way (to paraphrase Frank Sinatra) and was Ava Gardner her entire life. This gorgeous baby-faced brunette with the personality and sense of humor to match. And I believe this is all part of why she’s so likable then and still so popular now. Because she was this goddess who was so sweet, charming and funny, but so real and you always knew who she was and what she wanted. Not a lot of mystery with Ava Gardner.

The Charlie Rose Show: Barbara Walters-Jane Fonda Interview (2006)

Source:Charlie Rose- ABC News anchor Barbara Walters, interviewing Hollywood Goddess Jane Fonda, in 2006.

Source:The Daily Review

“Jane Fonda discusses her book “My Life So Far” and her personal relationships with parents, Henry Fonda and Frances Ford Seymour; husbands, Roger Vadim, Tom Hayden, and Ted Turner; and daughter Vanessa Vadim.”

From Charlie Rose

“Jane Fonda: The actress, the activist, the feminist and the author. She’s been hated and loved by so many. In a exclusive interview with Stina Dabrowski they talk .

Source:Tennie Swanberg- Hollywood Goddess Jane Fonda being interviewed by ABC News anchor Barbara Walters, in 2006.

From Tennie Swanberg

At risk of sounding exactly as I wrote with what I put on my Google+, Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook accounts, (do I have enough social network accounts?) I love the realness of Jane Fonda. There’s nothing phony about her, at least in real-life. Keep in mind she’s an actress and a damn good one and as I said in my last piece about her, the best actress of the Silent Generation not including Liz Taylor. So she can play real as well as it can be done, at least onstage. And since I’m not the purely cynical asshole that I tend to get seen as, I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt here. And say she’s truly a real person in real-life. What you see for good and I believe at least the majority is good and for bad and I have my own political and judgment issues with her, what you see is what you get.

Despite Jane’s Far-Left, collectivist, public politics there’s a real individualistic side to Jane Fonda that says people should be who they are and then own that. Instead of feeling the need to fit in and be other people. Which is exactly how I look at life as a Liberal.

Personal freedom can never be real if individuals are not only free to be themselves, but then accept that and take advantage of that. But to paraphrase Jane, then you have to own who you are: “This is who I am as a person for good and bad. This is where I do well and perhaps could do better. This is where I come up short and need to work on to be a complete person.” Not that you try to be perfect, but that you’re as good of a person that you can be. Because you know who you are and where you’re strong. While you’re improving at your flaws.

Without Jane Fonda’s activism against the Vietnam War and how big she was with the anti-war movement and the broader New-Left, I don’t know there’s a whole lot to criticize her about. I don’t think there would be much that is controversial about her.

The Christian-Right would still get on Jane Fonda about sexual movies in the 1960s like Barbarella, but that was in the 1960s at the heart of the Counter Culture and Cultural Revolution. And today if anything she’s still very popular, because she did movies like that and others like The Chapman Report, that looks at sex between married couples as well as adultery. Which was still very controversial in 1962.

Jane Fonda, is someone who you really have to look at the whole picture before you make up her mind about her. Because she’s truly a complete and real person who can’t be looked at as good, or bad, or in black and white. Because like life in general she’s complicated.

Barbara Walters Special: Jane Fonda (1978)

Source:Marmar- Hollywood Goddess Jane Fonda, in 1978.
Source:The Daily Review

Jane Fonda, I believe giving Barbara Walters an interesting interview in 1978. Whatever you think about her politics she’s very honest and open about them and her life as well. Like losing her mother at the age of 12, her somewhat distant relationship with her father Henry Fonda. Her political activism in and outside of the Democratic Party and I could go on. I believe that is what people like her whether they like her or not they at least respect her realness. And that there really isn’t anything fake about her. And as a result the characters that she plays in her movies come off as so real as well. California Suite, where she plays a somewhat cold and distant mother, is a perfect example of that.

Whatever you think of Jane’s politics I think even her strongest opponents will give her that she’s a great actress. Perhaps would prefer her to stick with acting and leave political activism to people who know more about the issues that she campaigns on. But she’s a great actress and I at least believe if there wasn’t an actress named Elizabeth Taylor, I believe we’re talking about the greatest actress at least of the Silent Generation. And that includes women like Sophia Loren, Angie Dickinson, Kim Novak, Karen Black, to use as examples. When it coms to acting she’s in the same class as Liz Taylor, Lauren Bacall, Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth, Susan Hayward and many other great actress’s. And that should never be misunderstood and forgotten about Jane Fonda. Regardless of what you think about her politics.

Elizabeth Taylor Quotes: How to Live Life

Source:Elizabeth Taylor-
Source:The Daily Review

I think one of the reasons why Elizabeth Taylor was such a great survivor, was because she had a great sense of humor. I would have paid anything to hear her private conversations with Richard Burton. Who could be a Little Dick (ha, ha) when talking to Liz. I think listening to them talk to each other would be like being at a great two-person comedy show. Like watching the Rat Pack, Abbott and Costello, only funnier. If you’re familiar with the movie Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (That is not a question, but a movie) It is one of the most dramatic movies you’ll ever see. But Liz and Richard turn it into a comedy, because a lot as far as how the couple communicates with each other in that movie, is how Burton and Liz, communicated in real-life.

Without her sense of humor, I don’t think Liz makes it to 79. I mean think about all the bullshit she went through in real-life and that is not talking about her movies, but her own life. I mean boredom alone could have killed her when she was married to Senator John Warner when they were married in the late 1970s and early 80s. She loses husband Michael Todd, to a plane crash. She survives what seven divorces, but manages to hang on to all her wealth that she earned after each divorce. She survives cancer and again makes a better life for herself afterwords. She is sort of the Bill Clinton Hollywood. She shoots one of her toes off, but grows a bigger healthier toe after losing the original toe. You don’t live the life that she did without being able to make fun of people effectively. Especially yourself and all of your screw ups.

As far as Liz’s advice on life, that is the roadmap she lived by to get through her 79 years. What choice do you have when you’re consistently knocked down. Especially from walking into doors, because you’re not paying attention. You either first realize how stupid you were, or how badly someone screwed you and either learn from your mistakes and get back up, or you lay down and claim life is not fair and wait to die. It is not a question of whether someone gets knocked down in life, or not. And getting knocked down in life by itself is not a bad thing. Getting knocked down in life is a reminder that you’re not perfect and you’re only human which is all you should want to be anyway. It’s the aftermath that is key. Do you learn from experience and adjust appropriately and get back up as a better person. Or do you just stay on the ground and rot away.

Liz Taylor’s message on life, was one foot forward after another. Figure out where you’re going and then ultimately get there. You’re going to take wrong turns at some point as we all do, but the key is to recognize them and then correct your course as a better person. Not lie on the floor and bitch about how unfair life is, or yell at your GPS for giving you wrong directions. But instead figure out what is not working especially your own mistakes and fix the issues and move forward. Get to wherever which is the best place for you. Knowing you’re going to screw up again, but the more you learn about yourself and where you come up short, the better you’ll be able correct your own shortcomings. And make fewer mistakes in the future.

Barbara Walters Special: Elizabeth Taylor 1999 Interview

Source:ABC- Hollywood Goddess Elizabeth Taylor, being interviewed by ABC News's Barbara Walters, in 1999.
Source:The Daily Review

"Elizabeth Taylor: Barbara Walters Interview."

From Valley Taylor Burton

I think survivor or perhaps the Silent Generation’s version of the drama queen as far as someone who really has lived the life of a Hollywood character. With all the ups and downs that she’s gone through in her life and gotten through all of that and perhaps came out stronger each time. All of the failed marriages, the alcoholism, the obesity, the tragic deaths of close people in her life. The life that she’s lived looks very similar to that of Ava Garner. Another Hollywood Goddess who lived her own life and lived her life her way, there was even a song made about that.

Liz Taylor, lived a life that you would think anyway could have only had been written by a very good Hollywood screenwriter. Perhaps writing the script that made them the star. Similar to Ava Gardner, I think what made Liz Taylor such a great actress is that she in many cases lived the life of a Hollywood star. She didn’t have to play roles and parts, because those parts in many cases were very similar to how she was in real-life. She was born to so soap operas and would have had a great career there has soaps not been too small of a stage for her.

Butterfield 8, which she did with Laurence Harvey in 1960, where she plays a model whose not really working, but goes from man to man and not sure who is the real man for her and not really committed to anyone. But relies on several different people to help her get through, is a pretty good example of what I’m talking about here. I believe she was such a great actress, arguably the best ever and the best of her generation, because she was a great actress, with a keen wit and intelligence, but she played women who were very similar to who she was in real-life.

Biography: Grace Kelly

Source:King, Queens & All That- The Amazing Grace Kelly.

Source:The Daily Review

“American actress Grace Kelly starred in such movies as ‘Dial M for Murder’ and ‘The Country Girl,’ before leaving Hollywood to marry Prince Rainier III of Monaco.

Grace Kelly rose to fame as a leading Hollywood actress following her prominent role in High Noon. Along with her Academy Award-winning performance in The Country Girl, she starred in the Alfred Hitchcock films Rear Window, Dial M for Murder and To Catch a Thief. Kelly left Hollywood behind after marrying Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1956, thereby becoming known as Princess Grace. She died in her adopted home country in 1982, following a car accident.”

From Biography

“Grace Kelly Biography.”

Source:Dylan Young- The Amazing Grace Kelly.

From Dylan Young

I don’t know of a another woman where the name and word Grace better fits than Grace Kelly. Their parents named her perfectly and I’m not sure there’s a woman who looks more like a princess than Grace Kelly. Perhaps Queen Noor of Jordan, who I believe at least is a better looking Goddess than Grace, looks more like a princess.

The only word I have for Grace Kelly is more. I wish she was in Hollywood longer and did more films and perhaps worked in television where there would have been so much great work for her in either.

And I wish she had lived longer, because similar to Diana Dors, (speaking of goddess’ and princess’s) they both died in their early fifties. Two Hollywood Goddess’s from the Silent Generation, both dying in their early fifties and both women by most accounts living responsible lives. And not big consumers of alcohol and other drugs.

Grace, was a great actress, with a great face, great voice, very charming, good sense of humor. Never looks more than half her age with one of the sweetest baby-faces and voices you would ever see and hear. Who was in great Alfred Hitchcock movies like To Catch a Thief and Rear Window. Where she was the lead actress in both movies where when you see her in those movies it was hard to concentrate on anyone else. Because she was so sweet and well, graceful and just grabbed your attention and made it difficult for you to think about anything else.

In the chase scene in To Catch a Thief where she’s driving with Cary Grant, she looks like a teenage girl going out for a drive with her daddy. That is how sweet she always was and never did anything to suggest she wasn’t that sweet in real-life and not just fooling people with her appearance.

Grace Kelly, not the sexiest actress of all-time and not very sexy compared with a lot of other Hollywood Goddess’s and I believe, because she had a tendency to come off as a kid, because she was so adorable. But other than Elizabeth Taylor I believe Grace is the best actress of her generation. Someone who would have remained a star through the 1960s and even longer than that had she simply wanted that. But I guess it is hard to turn down the opportunity to be a European princess especially in a beautiful country like Monaco.

And again Grace was a woman who looked like a princess and had the personality to match. She was someone of many talents including that as an actress and I wish she just had done that a lot longer.

Lifetime: Intimate Portrait- Ava Gardner (2000)

Source:Lavelle Luthy- Hollywood Goddess Ava Gardner.
Source:The Daily Review

"This special on Ava Gardner [1922-1990] aired in 2000. Im sorry this copy is so bad. Its the only one I have."

I don't know of another actress other than maybe Lana Turner, (speaking of drama queens) who lived her real-life as close to many characters she played on the big screen than Ava Gardner.

Ava was a real-life drama queen and I don't mean that in a negative sense. But nothing was ever boring with her. Starting with her gorgeous, baby-faced looks. Very similar to Elizabeth Taylor and her great voice as well. Also similar to Liz Taylor. Her beautiful black hair, again Liz Taylor. And that she was this incredible real-life character with a great sense of humor and the ability to play almost anyone on the big screen. With the best and most interesting character that she ever played being the one and only Ava Gardner. Perhaps the prettiest and most interesting drama queen of all-time.

You put Ava in soap operas in the 1950s when they came out on TV and she would've been the queen of soap. Susan Luci, would've had nothing on Ava. Because Ava was almost not acting when she was playing very dramatic roles especially women with quick-witted sense of humors. She was just playing herself, this beautiful, adorable, sexy, intelligent brunette, who was also one hell of a great actress.

Ava lived her personal life the way the played many roles in the movies as a woman who always did things her way (to paraphrase Frank Sinatra) who wasn't alive, but always living life and enjoying every moment of it that she possibly could. Perhaps why she and Frank didn't work out, because he might have been too much and too much fun for him.

And the other thing that she had in common with Liz Taylor, is that they both lived life to be alive. Not simply to try to get through it like you're in prison, or serving in combat and simply trying to survive. She was free as a squirrel who lived her whole life the only way she knew how to, which was to have as much fun as she possibly could. And she paid a heavy price for that with the alcoholism and having several different male relationships that never worked out.

Ava's life to live, to enjoy and make mistakes with. Not someone else's to live for her, or for her to live in someone's else's image of what kind of life she should have. Which takes a lot of guts to literally be that free in life and that I have a lot of respect for her.

Lifetime: Intimate Portrait Angie Dickinson

Source:Lifetime Intimate Portait Angie Dickinson.
Source:The Daily Review

When I think of Angie Dickinson I’m staring at those eyes and locked into that voice. She reminds me a of smaller Gena Rowlands, another women who just looks and sounds incredible, but who is also a hell of an actress. A true goddess who is both hot and baby-faced adorable where they don’t seem to age and always look like very young women even if they’re in their forties and fifties. Gena is a bigger and taller Angie, but she might be just as adorable. When you look this great and you also can act and make people laugh and sing, you’ll never have to worry about finding a job in Hollywood. Just as long as you don’t piss off the wrong people. And an actress will always be able to be either on TV, or doing movies, or both.

There two movies and perhaps a certain TV show that you’re familiar with when I think of Angie Dickinson. Ocean’s Eleven from 1960, where she plays the wife of compulsive gambler Danny Ocean (played by Frank Sinatra) and The Chase from 1966 where she plays the girlfriend of the sheriff. (played by Marlin Brando) She has a small part in Ocean’s, but a key one and has a great scene where she tells of Danny’s mistress on the phone. When the mistress is confessing to her that she’s seeing her husband. And Angie tells the mistress that, “what you’re saying just makes me want him more.” She has a much bigger role in The Chase where she’s the girlfriend of the sheriff and is very close to Marlin in that movie.

But I believe Angie’s Dickinson’s most important accomplishment to Hollywood is Police Women. Where she plays a police detective sergeant in that movie. That show comes out in 1974 three years before Charlie’s Angels and she plays this gorgeous sexy smart detective sergeant on that show. Who leads police investigation’s and kicks ass at the same time. Police detective shows with female leads now are common and have been since the 1990s. But a big reason for that was Police Women and Angie Dickinson. She showed that you could look like a goddess and also be smart and professional and do important jobs in society and be in charge. And because of Angie NBC, CBS and ABC, (and perhaps even FOX) are always looking for that new hit female detective show.

Angie is simply one of the cutest, hottest, sexiest actress’s with the great voice to match of all-time. I could listen to her read from a phone book, or a tennis rule book and I would end up being fascinated with that bland material that would be great reading material for insomniacs if it was read by just about everyone else. But she makes everything look and sound interesting simply because of who she is. She was great on the Alfred Hitchcock Hour in the early 1960s, playing a women who simply marries men for money and tries to get her latest boyfriend to murder her husband. She’s a true Hollywood Goddess in the sense that she’s an incredibly attractive women, but also a great actress. And she’s one of the top actress’s of her generation and in the business today.

Liz Taylor is the Jim Brown, John Unitas, Babe Ruth, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Frank Sinatra, the person in her profession that everyone who comes after her his judged by. The greatest at what she does. Are you as good as Elizabeth Taylor as an actress? If you are, well now you’re the best, but if you’re anything close to her even light years from her you know you’ve made it. If you’re in her class, or just a few classes back from Liz Taylor you’ve made it. You’re not just a successful actress, but you’re a great actress.

I’ve gone back and forth between Liz and Lauren Bacall when I try to decide who’s the best actress of all-time, because you could make a great case for either and I’m blogging now about Liz, so I’m going to make her case.

But I’ve just don’t know of another actress whose funnier, one of the funniest people who has ever come out of Hollywood. As she said she’s an instinctive and if you’re a great instinctive actress you are also a great improv actress, because you go off of feel about who you’re playing and where the role and the movie, or show is going. That is Liz Taylor.

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Which isn’t a question, but a movie) Is a perfect example of that where she’s playing a woman whose losing her mind and going crazy if not already there. Its is a very serious role and movie and yet she and Richard Burton are very funny in that. And maybe that’s just because they were working with each other and the chemistry they had. But they made that movie a great movie by themselves.

When it comes to dramatic actress’s I don’t know of a better actress. Again Virginia Woolf, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Butterfield 8, The V.I.P.’s again with Burton and The Sandpiper again with Burton. She’s great at making very serious roles in serious movies seem very entertaining and even funny.

Virginia Woolf, is a very serious graphic even movie with this couple that looks like they’re getting ready to divorce, because of how they argue and the clean shots that they throw and land at each other. And of course with Liz’s character going insane as the movie moves along and yet they were both hysterically funny together in this movie. She might be the best improvisational actress of all-time as well and Lauren Bacall does very well in this area as well.

Liz Taylor very similar to Ava Gardner took charge of her life and lived her life exactly the way she wanted. And essentially said the hell with the future and the consequences and lived her life her way. I think that’s how a woman is married 6-7 times, or whatever it was and drinks and eats too much.

Liz lived a roller coaster life including all the tragedies that she suffered around her husband Mike Todd dying and other loved one around her dying. But with all the ups and downs that she had in her life she lived a great 79 years that has millions of people who love her and will always love her. And we’re also talking about one of the two best actress’s ever.

And when you live a life-like that and enjoy so much and have so much success with so many people who love you, what do you have to complain about. She lived a great life and had a great roller coaster ride.

Associated Press: Actress Ava Gardner

Source: Associated Press-The AP, covering Hollywood Goddess Ava Gardner.
Source:The Daily Review

In Ava Gardner’s narration in this video you’ll see here where they use her actual voice Ava talks about that she was basically just a North Carolina country girl at heart. And how nice it would have been to just live in the country. I can’t think of a more modest thing a Hollywood star has ever said. I mean we are talking about one of the best looking women who has ever lived and one of the best actress’s who has ever lived. Perhaps the voice of her generation as well with that sweet and yet sexy voice. Perhaps she got that from hanging out with the Chairman of the Board Frank Sinatra and perhaps attending his board meetings. But imagine had all of that talent stayed in Asheville, North Carolina or some place. Only they would have known how great she was.

Even though Ava Gardner did live still 68 which is not a real short life, I mean you’re collecting Social Security and Medicare at that point, so you’re certainly not young in years, but the average America women lives to about 80 now, but I’m not sure she was built to last. She was a true star a Hollywood Goddess and stars tend to burn out at some point. And when you are a carefree individual that she was and live your life your way, (to paraphrase The Chairman) you’re going to do things that aren’t real smart if you’re looking to live a long time. She partied too much, drank too much, had a lot of bad relationships with the same man. (I think you know who I’m talking about) She got out of life as much as she could before it was taken from her, but made a hell of a life and career for herself.

Ava Gardner is literally one of the top actress’s of her generation if not all-time. The same league as Lauren Bacall, Susan Hayward and many others and perhaps not even a handful of actress’s are better. And yet she was a true star both on the screen and in real-life and lived her characters off stage as well with her lifestyle. She played the role of a women who couldn’t get enough out of life in her personal life and simply enjoyed life too much before it finally caught up with her. But in the time she had she put together a great resume including in the 1964 movie Seven Days in May where she played the girlfriend of the general was who trying to create a coup and take over the United States. And is still one of the top Hollywood Goddess’s and actress’s of all-time.

Mysteries & Scandals: Ava Gardner

Source: E-
Source:The Daily Review

Ava Gardner, was a true real-life Hollywood Goddess. And what I mean by that is that she couldn’t, or didn’t separate her onstage character and he she wanted to be seen onstage with the person she was offstage and in private life. Was she a great actress, or a great real-life character who played herself in her movies and offstage? If she was a great real-life character instead then she didn’t need to be a great actress to play herself in all of her parts. Because all she was doing onstage was being herself. Her roller coaster up and down almost rock and roll wild life was a movie and a character in itself. She didn’t need any practice to play herself in her biggest movie role of her life. The Life of Ava Gardner, which no one could play as well as she did.

One thing that she had in common with The Lizard King Jim Morrison is that she lived life once and lived it her way. The attitude being that you only live one and you’re only going to get on crack out of life. So you might as well live it your way and get everything out of life that you can and try to enjoy as much of it as you possibly can. All of the men, all the partying and drinking, even if it makes you age faster than had you bothered to take care of herself, you still only live once. So you might as well as enjoy it as much as you possibly can. Ava Gardner made it to 67 and Jim Morrison died at 27, but if Ava was taking cocaine and perhaps other narcotics to go with the alcohol and does that in her twenties she doesn’t have the long great career that she did.

Ava Gardner, is one of the hottest, cutest and sexiest Hollywood Goddess’s of all-time. As well as one of the best actress’s and even with the lifestyle that she lived, similar to Rita Hayworth she was so great and did enough to make sure she was around to have a long great career, even if her life wasn’t that long considering she dies before she’s 70 when he was still active and working. Had Ava took care of herself, she might still be alive today. But again when its your life to live as you please as long as you aren’t hurting any innocent person it is really up to you how long and great of a life that she did. Ava wasn’t about longevity, but a quality when it came to life and she lived it her way.

CNN: Paula Zahn Now- Jane Fonda in 2005

Source:CNN- Hollywood Goddess and New-Left political activist Jane Fonda, talking to CNN in 2005.
Source:The New Democrat

“JANE FONDA TALKS TO PAULA ZAHN ABOUT HER ANGUISH OVER VIETNAM, 2005 {33}”

Source:Talk Vietnam- Larry King Live in 2005.

From Talk Vietnam

I think there really are two Jane Fonda’s: the great, sexy beautiful baby-faced adorable actress, who is arguably the greatest actress of her generation. With perhaps only Liz Taylor being better. And then there’s the New-Left political activist, that emerges on the American political scene in the late 1960s and is there throughout the 1970s. Who U.S. Military veterans see as The Devil. Who the New-Left/Far-Left in America, see as one of their heroes. Perhaps right there with Karl Marx and many others.

And I think it’s hard to cover both sides of Jane’s career in one post. But she’s made a huge mark in both careers that she’s had, I’m going to give it a shot.

It’s not being against the Vietnam War, that made Jane Fonda controversial. I mean, the country up until the early 1970s, was split on that issue. It’s still the worst war that America has ever been in. As far as all the pain, suffering and deaths and how it’s effected future president’s and Congress’s and how they go to war.

It’s how Jane was against this war that really sets her apart. And puts in the anti-war movement in America that makes it easy to portray her as anti-American, if not Un-American. When you accuse the President of the United States of being a war criminal and you take a picture with the enemy and you call Americans soldiers murderers, it’s easy to see how people who love America would hate you.

The positive side of Jane Fonda’s career: again, perhaps the best actress of her generation, ( The Silent Generation: Americans born in the late 1920s and 1930s, primarily )  I think only Liz Taylor would be better than Jane. And you look at Jane’s movies like Walk on The Wild Side, The Chase, The China Syndrome, some of the best movies ever and she had a great part and was great in all of them, its easy to see why she’s had such a great career. And inheriting Henry Fonda’s genes, doesn’t hurt either.

But as a political activist and I’ll go concentrate on the Vietnam War, perhaps some of her other activities, I probably agree with her on, she stands out as a real New-Left, or Far-Left radical, that has pissed off a lot of Americans. Who by-in large would probably like and love her a lot otherwise.

TCM: Kelsey Grammer- Tribute to Lauren Bacall

“TCM Tribute to Lauren Bacall.”

From TCM

There are Hollywood goddesses, gorgeous sexy women who are also very good entertainers who come around and then burn out and leave town. Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield unfortunately come to mind real fast.

And then are Hollywood actress’s who at least in my opinion are overrated, both as actress’s, but also how they physically present themselves and how they look. I won’t name anyone right now, but there are several young actress’s that come to mind who fit this category.

And there are also actress’s who have these characteristics who stay around forever and I at least can’t wait till they retire, so I can stop hearing about how great they are, when I know they aren’t.

And then there are actress’s who have the same qualities as the first group of actress’s, but what makes them different? What they have in common is that they are Hollywood goddesses. They are gorgeous, they are sexy, they are incredibly cute, adorable really. But they aren’t good or very good entertainers and they don’t burn out and die young.

They were built to last and did last, because they just don’t look great, but they are great. Their minds and brains matches their physical beauty and they were born to entertain and do it very well for a very long time.

The third group of women that I mentioned, Lauren Bacall could be the president of that class. She is a Hollywood goddess of all-time, because she was a Hollywood goddess for what sixty-five years. From when he was discovered in the mid-1940s or so and managed to stay around racking up one great role and movie one after the other for that entire time.

I believe Liz Taylor is the best actress of all time, at least from what I’ve seen. But the difference between Lauren and Liz might be smaller than my pinky. And I wouldn’t pick anyone else ahead of Lauren.

Kelsey Grammer already nailed this in the video, but Lauren Bacall had this presence, that I believe is unmatched and even as she got older, she still had it. And every time I’ve seen her and those incredible facial expressions or the way she would say certain things with her beautiful New York accent, she’s always made me go, aw! Every time I’ve seen or heard her.

This incredible, intelligent, funny, great gorgeous baby-face goddess that has always put me in aw every time I’ve seen her in everything that she’s ever done. The Hollywood goddess of all-time and it’s just a damn shame she had to pass.

Iron Cup Shrug: Point Blank (1967) Lee Marvin vs. Angie Dickinson

“While physically outmatched, Angie proves to have a canny tactical mind.”

From Iron Cup Shrug

Source:Alamy Stock Photo- Angie Dickinson vs Lee Marvin in Point Blank.

One of my favorite scenes in this movie and because it was Lee Marvin with Angie Dickinson. And I’m a huge fan of this movie, which I’ve hoped I’ve already made clear by now, otherwise I’ve done a horrible job.

But Angie Dickinson is a big reason why I love this movie and why I saw it in the first place. She’s not just a gorgeous sexy baby-face woman, one of the top Hollywood goddess’ of all-time, but she’s also a hell of an actress with a great sweet sexy voice. That would make reading from a dishwasher manual or a phonebook sound interesting simply because’s she’s reading from it.

And here in this scene Angie is one on one with Lee Marvin. And he brings her up to this place, really for her own security. Probably more likely, because he wants to keep an eye on her. But she thinks he has more honest and romantic intentions and that perhaps this house is their weekend getaway or something. But he makes it clear that is isn’t and she goes ballistic and goes off on him. Well she tries to anyway and slaps the hell out of him on his chest.

But Walker being the stone-cold criminal that he is, isn’t phased in the least by it. And basically just looks at her like, “what the hell is she doing” or something. And this is simply a great scene.

Biography: Elizabeth Taylor (2003)

Source:Elizabeth Taylor-
Source:The New Democrat

If there is just one actress that I could have to put into any role for anything, I could only have one, that woman would be Elizabeth Taylor. I mean, she was a great actress before she was even a teenager in the 1940s. She’s the gold standard, the standard that all actress’s are judged by. The Jim Brown or Babe Ruth of acting at least when it came to actresses. There isn’t a better dramatic or comedic actress than Liz Taylor. Someone who could make dramatic roles look hysterical, like when she played Martha in Virginia Wolf and could make comedic roles look serious.

And I’ve only covered her professional skills. But do you another woman with a better pair of eyes, sweeter or prettier eyes than Elizabeth Taylor. A beautiful baby-face brunette really her whole life. And we are talking about almost eighty-years and with the curves that she had. She could play a really adorable women, who just makes guys go, “aw, she’s so cute!”. Or she can play a sexy baby-face beautiful brunette that guys can’t get their minds off that drives wives crazy every time they are in her presence.

And of course no one is perfect and Liz Taylor might be the perfect example of that. A lot of her life is a dramatic comedy, or Hollywood scandal. With the countless marriages that she had, the alcoholism and obesity that she was fighting in the 1980s and perhaps even before that. But none of that takes anything away from what she brought to Hollywood and millions of movie fans. As this beautiful baby-face sexy brunette, who was an incredible actress, as well as one of the funniest people of all-time. Both intentionally and unintentionally.

The Tonight Show With Joan Rivers: Angie Dickinson (1983)

Source:Joy Collector- Hollywood Goddess Angie Dickinson & the great comedian Joan  Rivers.
Source:The New Democrat

"From January 26, 1983. Joan interviews Angie Dickinson- who is best known for starring in the cult movies "Big Bad Mama"and "Dressed to Kill", and the TV series "Police Woman".

From Joy Collector

On a personal note and perhaps just the only one: I could watch and listen to Angie Dickinson until it snowed in Miami, Florida. Sitting in Miami, Florida in July waiting for it to snow and getting so tanned and sunburned that I make John Boehner look like the Snowman. By the way, Snowmen aren't real. I hate to break that to you kids and seriously retarded adults. People just make fake men out of snow. Sort of how women see fake men as real men and then act horribly surprised when their man turns into a bastard.

But back to Angie Dickinson before I lose anymore followers. (Ha, my followers are back already) I could literally listen to her read off of a phone book and go through the thousands of Joe and Mary Smith's who live on Main Street near Bob's Diner and Gas Station and it would sound fascinating coming from her. She has this adorable and yet sexy vibe from her that everything she says and talks about just grabs you. The woman could also look hot in pajamas and an orange baggy prison jumpsuit. She has this quality about her that is incredible that is hard to explain that you simply don't see on a regular basis.
